  2. Verification of Beech Wood Properties as a Strategic Material for Timber Structures

Verification of Beech Wood Properties as a Strategic Material for Timber Structures

The project is focused on the verification of beech wood (Fagus sylvatica L.) properties for building constructions. Structural size samples with natural defects will be used for testing. Characteristic values of structural beech wood will be determined according to the standards EN 408 and EN 384. Interaction between bending strength, elastic modulus and wood density predicts reliable assignment of strength grades according to EN 338. Results of destructive bending tests will be compared to non-destructive methods based on various principles (ultrasound, natural frequency, etc.). Quality of beech wood will be continually evaluated in the entire line of technological process.
The analyses of quality parameters of Slovak beech wood and their utilization in predictive and indicative models, which are fundamental for the utilization in building constructions, will be the outcomes of the project.
