The rationale of the project is to investigate the decomposition and mineralization of organic matter, transport of water and water-soluble substances and accumulation processes in particular subhorizons of the surface soil organic horizons as well as the underlying A-horizon in different forest stands. In addition to the information about the spatial and temporal variability of physico-chemical and biological properties of each subhorizon, insight into the relationships between local site factors and the transformations of organic matter will be obtained.
