The project is focused on research into wood surface and its properties (morphology, roughness, chemical properties, wetting, thermodynamic characteristics, hydrophility, hydrophobicity, and similar) and on its
propose-oriented modification. There is also studied influence of multiple factors (wood species, moisture content, mechanic treatment, surface pre-treatment, surface ageing) and their interactions on wood surface properties.
The project addresses the following issues: wood wetting with liquids and its thermodynamic characteristics, surface morphology and surface chemistry.
For each of these issues, there have been defined the goals and prepared the methods for meeting these goals.
Such a comprehensive approach should guarantee optimisation of parameters controlling wood surface quality. The results obtained will provide the base for preparing the methods for its purpose-oriented modification with the
aim to improve significantly the quality and stability of the treated surfaces and glued joints.
