Phylogeography, taxonomy and diversity of mayfly complex Ecdyonurus-Electrogena (Ephemeroptera: Heptageniidae) of the Carpathians

Principal objective of the project is to gather actual informations about the diversity of one of the typical component of the montane aquatic ecosystems - family Heptageniidae (mayflies, Ephemeroptera) in the selected areas within the Central and Eastern Carpathians. One of the project outcomes will be the description of the new taxa, which probably occurr in the region. The project will also contribute to explain phylogeography of the family Heptageniidae in the area investigated. The results will be useful not only in the systematics of mayflies, but also for the future studies dealing with the ecology of individual species, their function in the rheophilous ecosystems and possibilities of their utilization in the bioindication and nature protection.
