Main research focus

The excellent CNC Production Technology team is composed with the aim of its comprehensive coverage of the staff of the Faculty of Technology and its departments. The CNC Production Technology research team focuses on the research and development of new technologies, processes and tools in the field of computer-aided manufacturing and mechanical engineering. This team deals, for example, with the optimization of production processes, processes of conventional and unconventional machining of metallic and non-metallic materials, improving product quality, using automation and robotization of production processes, digital processing of image signals and innovations in the field of machinery and equipment. In addition, the team members also deal with the implementation of information technologies and software solutions for the support and optimization of production and logistics. Their goal is to increase the efficiency, productivity and competitiveness of companies, especially in the mechanical engineering industry.

The activities of the excellent team cover all aspects of the manufacturing process, from product design to production and management of production processes. The focus in the field of digital manufacturing technology is the use of digital technologies such as 3D modelling, simulation, virtual reality, Internet of Things (IoT), robotics and automation to increase the efficiency and accuracy of production processes. Digital manufacturing technology also includes the use of 3D printing, which enables fast and efficient prototyping and the production of small series of products. Digital documentation is also used, which simplifies and streamlines the transfer of information between individual stages of the production process and facilitates the management and maintenance of production facilities.

The members of the research team in the field of manufacturing and mechanical engineering collaborate with industrial partners, as well as with universities and research institutions, to ensure that their research is relevant and beneficial to practice.

Reasons why team is considered excellent:

The team is mature and balanced in terms of age structure (average age 50 years). Also, due to the professional focus of the individual departments, they are considered excellent workers. The team members published 151 papers registered in the Web of Science database, with 846 citations without self-citations. The average citations per paper in the Web of Science database is 6.28 and the H-index of the entire team is 17, with several cited papers originating from international collaborations involving several team members. Younger scientists under the leadership of individual team members achieve extraordinary results. Most of the team members is systematically building its own significant scientific school (6 completed doctoral students) and the works of their PhD students are published in scientific journals registered in the CCC, WOS and Scopus databases. They actively participate in the development of cooperation with well-established universities in Europe, especially in the Central European region (V4 - Warsaw, Poznań, Gdansk, Krakow, Koszalin, Prague, Brno, Ústí nad Labem, Pilsen, Sopron, Sofia, Zagreb, Slavonski Brod, Cluj-Napoca, Lviv, ...). Team members presented their lectures at conferences and during the pedagogical process at the mentioned universities of individual countries within the framework of foreign mobilities. They regularly participate in the organization of international conferences, seminars and popularization events, where they are guarantors of individual events, are members of international societies and editorial boards of scientific journals at home and abroad, included in the WOS and Scopus databases. They regularly lead projects financed by domestic grant agencies (APVV, VEGA, KEGA ...). Team members carry out mechanical tests of materials and other expertise based on practical requirements.
