Main research focus
In scientific and research activities, the team works on tasks of basic and applied research focused on: chemical changes in lignocellulose materials that occur during various methods of their processing, modification of wood and wood materials to improve their performance properties and fire resistance, characterization of fibres of lignocellulose materials, hydrolysis of lignocellulose biomass, utilization of hydrolysates, utilization of lignocellulose waste, chemical processes in wood processing, analysis of VOCs emitted from various natural materials, production of valuable chemicals from lignocellulose biomass.
Reasons why the team can be considered top, research-based, or excellent:
Team members have more than 150 publications in the Web of Science Core Collection database with over 2000 citations and an H-index of 25 (2025). In the last 5 years (2020 – 2024), team members have published 57 scientific papers in journals registered in the CCC, WOS and SCOPUS databases. These papers have had 727 citations in publications registered in citation indexes in the last 5 years. The team leader, prof. Kačík, was ceremoniously awarded the DrSc. degree at Comenius University Bratislava in 2022 in the field: 020424 – science of non-metallic materials and building materials. In 2021, team members successfully completed the APVV project and the VEGA project under the leadership of prof. Kačík. In 2022, they successfully completed the VEGA project under the leadership of Mgr. Kučerová and started to solve the new VEGA project under the leadership of prof. Kačík. Since 2023, team members have been solving a new APVV project (doc. Čabalová), since 2024 a new VEGA project (doc. Čabalová) and 1 KEGA project (Ing. Výbohová). Team members are co-investigators of other APVV projects; VEGA; OP Research and Innovation (LIGNOPRO, FDAAS); UNIVNET. Team members lead dissertations and diploma theses related to the main focus of the team.
