Faculty of Wood Sciences and Technology, Department of Wood Technology
Main research focus
The research is focused on technologies of primary wood processing (mechanical and mechanical-chemical processing) and on the properties of products that are created by primary processing. It is the area of sawmill technologies, wood drying, modification of wood properties (hydrothermal, thermal), adjustment (finalization) technologies of sawmill products and technologies of wood based panels production and structural glued wood materials. The team specializes in research into the identification and elimination of negative impacts of growth defects in wood species, processes and procedures of primary processing. It also focuses on research and development of new and innovative materials with precisely specified properties. As part of a comprehensive solution, it also deals with research into the processing of secondary products that are created during primary wood processing.
Reasons why the team can be considered top, research-based, or excellent:
The team members have more than 200 publications in the Web of Science Core Collection database with over 1,900 citations and an H-index of 21 (2025). The team's research focus is unique and is the basis for the efficient processing of wood raw materials and the creation of high-quality and innovative products. The usability of the team's research results is high on a national and international scale. The research outputs are also applicable in practical conditions. Such a specifically focused research workplace is the only one at the Technical University in Zvolen, but it is also unique in Europe. All team members have top outputs in the wood processing. The team can be considered excellent.
