Justification of uniqueness/strategic importance:
The uniqueness of the Topocart laboratory lies in its ability to provide research activities aimed at assessing the possibilities of using non-contact data acquisition from aerial photography and scanning in forestry mapping, including the use of remotely piloted aircraft systems. The potential of the laboratory includes an analysis of the possibilities of given technologies in the above areas, an evaluation of the accuracy and reliability of newly created outputs, a proposal for a method of implementation into practice, a proposal for incorporation into work procedures and regulations in the field of forestry and cadastre. In the area of interpretation, this involves assessing the possibility of using automatic object-oriented classification of aerial images and point clouds generated from images, or directly from aerial laser scanning in identifying elements of forestry mapping and other GIS analyses. In the field of rationalization of terrestrial measurements, these mainly include measurement methods using GNSS, electronic total stations, inertial navigation systems and combined mobile mapping systems as methods for acquiring data for forestry research and mapping unidentifiable details on materials for non-contact data acquisition and filling forest growth simulators.
