TECHNICAL UNIVERSITY IN ZVOLEN

Forms of Study

The aim of educational process at Technical University in Zvolen is to provide graduates with abroad knowledge of forestry, wood science and technology, ecology and environment, manufacturing and environmental technology, emphasizing also specific methods and knowledges.

The following university degrees are offered at the Technical University in Zvolen:

• Bachelor^,s degree (BSc.): a professional degree that can be reached after 6 to 8 semesters of studies. It is completed with a state examination. The degree qualifies holders for professional career. Holders of a Bachelor^,s degree can also continue their studies for another 2 to 6 semesters so as to gain a Master^,s degree.
• Master^,s degree (MSc.): a degree, which qualifies holders for postgraduate / doctoral studies or a profession. It is completed with a state examination. To qualify for a Master^,s degree, the applicant must hold a Bachelor^,s degree. Master^,s degree programmes last regulary 4 semesters.
• Doctoral degree (PhD.): doctoral / PhD. qualification for those who already hold a degree and have completed a doctoral study programme. Candidates have to pass a doctoral examination, submit a doctoral thesis (Dissertation) and defend it in an oral examination. In its full - time form the doctoral study lasts 3 to 4 years, in the part - time form it lasts maximally 5 years.  

All faculties of Technical University in Zvolen are using ECTS (European Credit Transfer System) in all study programmes. ECTS is a system, which the European Commission introduced to facilitate academic and student mobility. Under the Socrates/Erasmus programme, the ECTS promotes the recognition of study achievements among European universities and colleges and curriculum transparency.
