The main mission of the Technical university in Zvolen (TUZVO) is to provide university education in accredited study programmes as well as to develop scientific research in diffrent fields and to introduce it nto the practice. Within its main mission, the university:
organizes the university courses of study and grants a BSc. and Ing. (MSc.) degrees to graduates of the faculties,
provides postgraduate study programmes in different study branches, the graduates of which are awarded the academic and scientific degree of "Philosophiae Doctor" (PhD.),
carries out the habilitations of Associate Professors and appointments to Professors-ships,
organizes continuing education in specified areas.
The aim of educational process at TUZVO is to provide graduates with a broad knowledge of forestry, wood science and technology, ecology and environment, manufacturing and environmental technology, emphasizing also specific methods and knowledges. Due to the multifunctional structure of curricula our graduates are able to find employment in the whole range of the above mentioned areas as well as in other specialisation-related areas.
Currently, the system of university education is undergoing considerable changes. It is being transformed in keeping with new legal regulations restructuring the university education by introducing a three-stage system of university education and the European Credit Transfer System. Consequently, since the academic year 2005/2006, the TU has been running the courses for the 2nd-5th year students to gradually finish all the previous graduate and post-graduate study programmes as well as the new accredited study programs for the 1st year students.
At present, the TU comprises four faculties.
- The Faculty of Forestry provides education in four currently offered but gradually finishing Master`s degree programmes - “Forestry”, “Management and Financing of Forestry Enterprises”, “Forest Ecology”, and “Applied Zoology and Wildlife Management”. Since the academic year 2005/2006 it has been offering two Bachelor`s degree programs.
- The Faculty of Wood Sciences and Technology provides education in five currently offered but gradually finishing Master`s degree programs - “Wood Technology Engineering”, “Industrial Furniture Design”, “Processes of Woodworking”, “Enterprise Management”, and “Fire Protection” as well as in one still offered and gradually finishing Bachelor`s degree program “Interior Design and Consultancy”. Since the academic year 2005/2006 it has been offering 11 Bachelor`s degree programs.
- The Faculty of Ecology and Environmental Sciences provides training in two currently offered but gradually finishing Master`s degree programs – “Applied Ecology” and “Environmental Science”. Since the academic year 2005/2006 it has been offering 4 Bachelor`s degree programs.
- The Faculty of Environmental and Manufacturing Technology offers currently two Master`s degree programs – “Engineering of Machines and Equipment” and “Engineering of Industrial Management” as well as two Bachelor`s degree programmes - “Integrated Management” and “Manufacturing Technology” , which are about to be finished gradually. Since the academic year 2005/2006 it has been offering 4 Bachelor`s degree programs.
Since the academic year 2005/2006 the university has been running a whole-university Bachelor`s degree program “Economics and Management of Renewable Resources”.
